for my last recommendation i suggest reading Brown Angels by Walter Dean Myers. this is a lovely collection of photographs and poems. the pictures are all photos of children and babies. they represent African Americans and were collected by the author. the photos were found in the corner of a dusty old antique shop. the author wanted to share the photos with his award winning poems reflecting innocence, love, and life through many years. the photos take you back in time and share wonderful poems that reflect the characters in the picture. i enjoyed looking through this book and thinking about the treasured moments caught on film. i value spending time with my children when they are young because they grow so fast and time cant be reversed. i think it will make all of us think about what is really important in our lives and take a picture of the moments that are most cherished.

blog #3
a book i recommend this week is Amazing Grace by Mary Hoffman. its a story about a little girl that is very outgoing and loves to read. she love to read and act out the main character in the story. in school her class is going to make a play Peter-Pan. Grace of course wants to be Peter-Pan. her classmates laugh and say you are a girl and Black. so therefore cant be Peter-Pan. she goes home sad and her grandmother and mom talk to her. they tell her you can be anything you want . Grandma takes her for a walk and they see a theatre where the main actress is African American. Grace is so motivated and happy to see that she realizes she can do the same too. she goes to school the next day and is very excited to make an audition. she does well and her classmates have a great respect for her. Grace gets the part for Peter-Pan. grandma and mama are so happy and tell her if you put your mind to it you can do whatever you want. its a wonderful story that will motivate students and children to be all they can no matter the barriers between them.

week 2 blog!
i would like to recommend a wonderful book called "Her Stories" by Virginia Hamilton. its a multicultural book relating to African Americans. it has different sections that talk about African American folktales, fairy tales, and true tales. its a remarkable book that gives you the insight on topics perceived through African Americans. the illustrations are cultural and take you back in time. the book deals with Slavery, struggles, and humor. the book has won awards such as the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award and the Coretta Scott King Award. its entertaining and lovable. i could not put it down. the text in the book makes you feel like your in the South. its simple yet educational text is rich in diversity and color. you will definitely enjoy this one. something different from your common readings, i recommend some flavor.

Having two children of my own i always try to read to them and teach them through literacy. my children are 3 and 2 years old. the book i recommend this week are the Priddy Books by Roger Priddy. the Happy Baby collection in particular are great for introducing children to the real world around them. the pictures are real photos taken of people, animals, and objects. my children love to read them and can relate the objects with things around them in the house and outside. the colors are bright and attractive and it also teaches math with counting. it helps children learn about different fruits and vegetables as well. these books also teach students vacabulary words because each picture is labled. i love reading these books to my class as well. whatever the them for the week is at school there usually is a picture or book describing it. students connect the subject being taught to a visual and delightful reading. I'm sure your students will enjoy these beginning learning books.
